Breaking News I Have No Idea What I am Doing: But I am Writing

The vast majority of you that have clicked on this are friends and family, so hello! You all know my life story. But for those who do not know who I am, my name is Eva. I am 20 years old and I am from Northern Ireland. I’m at university and I am studying English and Politics, and before you ask no I do not want to be a teacher.

Since I was about 15 I have wanted to be a journalist. Why? Until this week I could not tell you an exact reason as to why. I always told people I love chatting and I am so nosey (both are very true don’t worry) but this week it dawned on me it was so much more than that. Ever since I can remember I have watched the news. Before school, eating my dinner, even before I went to bed the 10pm bulletin was on TV. So news essentially shaped my life, but I quickly realised it didn’t shape everybody’s life.

I would come into school and ask people if they saw an interesting story covered last night by UTV and nobody ever knew what I was talking about. Now ironically, most of my friends will tell you that I have no pop culture references post 2016, but I can tell you what I watched on the news. And now, I do believe pop culture and TikTok trends are important to know, but it is also equally important to know what is going on in the world around us. Why? Well, because it shapes our lives. You might be reading this thinking, “Eva no it doesn’t” but trust me it does. A woman came to the BBC complaining about how she had to wait for a doctors appointment? That shaped your life. The Prime Minister made a speech wanting to change the way A-Levels are assessed? That shaped not only your life, but future generations lives. Journalists want to inform people and help people tell their stories.

Which kind of leads into why I started this website, because I want to inform people. I want to have a space where I can update people on stuff I see happening around me and put my two cents in (whether its wanted or unwanted) because this is what I want to do for my whole life. Now technology is definitely not my thing, and in fact I am the equivalent to a Victorian child who accidentally ended up in 2026, but I am willing to learn, bear with me please. But what I am good at is writing and talking, so we can do that together (yay).

Hopefully this gives you an insight into who I am and what I do (and aim to do). I hope this succeeds into more than just a passion project, but who knows where the wind will take us.
